Timothy McIntosh Jr.
Timothy McIntosh Jr. is an American professional barber, businessman and philanthropist. He is the founder of Park West Barber School and The Barber Foundation, both of which focus on the training of ex-offenders and those who are "harder to employ".〔
==Professional career==
A native of Forestville, Maryland, McIntosh was an apprentice barber at Talk of the Town Beauty and Barber Salon in Temple Hills, Maryland while attending Largo High School. McIntosh became a licensed barber and graduated from North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham, North Carolina earning his Bachelor’s Degree in business administration. After achieving thirteen years of professional barbering in North Carolina Timothy owned and operated a unisex salon/barbershop and also served on the North Carolina State Board of Barber Examiners.〔
As reported in ''The Triangle Tribune'', McIntosh "saw firsthand the difficulty ex-offenders had in retaining their barber’s license".〔 In August 2006 McIntosh opened Park West Barber School, LLC in Durham, North Carolina.〔 He is working on a partnership with the Employment Security Commission and the School of Social Work at North Carolina Central to find case management to facilitate the program.〔 McIntosh was inspired by a program Phil Mazza, a member of the Maryland State Barber Board, who set up in a prison facility for 18 months to help prisoners get licensed before they were released.〔
As creator and founder of The Barber Foundation, Timothy McIntosh developed this foundation to serve as the philanthropic arm of the barber school which helps build partnerships and develop service projects for students at the school.〔 Through partnerships developed by the Barber Foundation, the school has teamed with Duke University to provide free haircuts and screenings for diabetes and hypertension. Along with the Department of Nursing at NCCU and the Durham County Health Department, the foundation serves to provide blood-pressure screenings to clientele.〔 McIntosh also helped start a barber program at the Holton Career and Resource Center, a program of the Durham Public Schools that teaches job skills to high school students.〔
